The Suicide Prevention & Mental Health Awareness Coalition of Portage County would like to extend its sincere appreciation to Portage County businesses, organizations and residents for their support in our 11th Annual Walk for Hope, which took place September 10th, 2017. Our Walk for Hope brings together those who have lost a loved one to suicide, along with community members who support the cause and those who would like to learn more about how they can save a life.

The event raised nearly $9,000.00 in profit to fund our local suicide prevention and mental health awareness activities which include: free 90 minute QPR( Question, Persuade, Refer) suicide prevention training for individuals and groups; local support groups for those who have lost a loved one to suicide, Gun-Lock program at Ministry Health Care Emergency Department and Urgent Care, public information campaigns via signs in all local buses promoting crisis line and text line, collaborating with local schools to provide suicide prevention resources to students, providing free ongoing mental health training to mental health professionals in the community and providing free community presentations on various mental health topics.

Over 215 people pre-registered for the walk and with the importance of the event we were fortunate enough to have an additional 56 people register the day of, for a total of 261 participants. A Special Thanks to our 2016 Walk for Hope Sponsors:
